HRM & Performance Management on Employee Development
HRM & Performance Management
(Techfunnel,2023)
What is performance management?
Performance management is a set of processes and systems aimed
at developing employees, so they perform their job to the best of their
ability. The goal is to help employees build on skills that enable them to
perform better in their roles, reach their potential, and boost their success
while also accomplishing the strategic goals of the organization.
Effective performance management establishes a continuous
conversation between employees, managers, and HR.
The performance management process is strategic and
systematic. It combines verbal and written components, which take place
throughout the year, culminating in an annual performance
appraisal. The process involves the following:
- Establishing clear
expectations,
- Setting individual objectives
and goals that align with team and organizational goals,
- Providing ongoing feedback, and
- Evaluating results.
Career decisions, including promotions, bonuses, and dismissals,
are linked to the performance management process.

What is the performance
management cycle?
The performance
management cycle is a model that allows management and employees to better
achieve organizational goals through a structured process of employee
development.
The
performance management cycle is a part of the performance management process or strategy, it is shorter
and utilizes a continuous four-step procedure of planning, monitoring,
reviewing and rewarding.
Benefits
of utilizing this method include increased competitiveness, more structural
flexibility, and higher employee motivation.
The
performance management cycle definition encompasses four main stages:
- Planning
- Monitoring
- Reviewing
- Rewarding
The
model traditionally runs on a year-long timeline, ending with a performance
review, although various organizations have found that more frequent check-ins
will improve employee performance.
One
of the benefits of integrating a proper performance management cycle plan is an
employee who is more aligned with the goals of the organization, who
understands both their own objectives and the larger objectives of the
organization and has a solid roadmap that will help them achieve their
objectives.
(Andreev,2021)
At the
conclusion, performance management is a measurable way on employees’ day to day
activities, either can be monthly or weekly review. Simply it used appraisal methods.
This can be a huge impact on them to achieve their given targets/works on a specific
time framework. Employees can be benefited on this as a result, rewarded or dismissed.

Well written article, Nabeel. Though in my experience I've seen that traditional performance management systems lay emphasis on past performance a lot and that it does not tackle how an employee can undertake future development. Personally therefore I've seen it to be backwards and time consuming for both manager and the employee. But with the use of new technology and HR becoming more diplomatic, it would be interesting to find out if there have been any further developments in this area.
